प्रस्तुत हैं पुस्तक के कुछ अंश

This is a unique book which teaches Hindi through the medium of English language in the easiest yet the most efficient way. It has a good collection of most common phrases and sentences of Hindi with their English equivalents. This will serve as a quick reference and will be of great help for tourists. Only essential grammar has been included so that student is not overburdened or confused.

The author of the book P.S. Bhatnagar had thirty years of teaching experience and has met a large number of Indian and Foreign tourists to North India. He is well aware of their problems of communications. He has written this purposeful book after inviting their comments and suggestions.

A Word to the Tourists

It was on my return journey from Bombay to Delhi that I had an opportunity of a free and frank discussions with a group of European Tourists. In the course of my conversation, I came to know of certain problems faced by foreigners in India. The major hurdle was language specially for visitors from France, Germany, and other European countries. They are not acquainted with English. Their first effort is to familiarize themselves with Hindi and acquire its workable knowledge. They told me that most of the books written from the purpose were loaded with grammar, its rules and functions whereas the tourist is more interested and badly needs a book that could introduce him to conversational aspects of language.

Therefore, after a detailed talk on the subject and taking note of the difficulties experienced not only by
European but also by many Asians and even Indians from non-Hindi regions that I prepared an outline to suit their aims and put that in the form of the book.

While saying a word to the learner, specially to ‘The Tourists’ I wish to communicate the following important point to facilities their approach and understanding of the language which is spoken in India by a large majority, Its roots are deep and well spread out. In fact it is a child grown in to youth after being nourished and nurtured by ancient Indian classical and common people’s languages like Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit, Braj Bhasha and Khariboli. Even Persian language has contributed much to its development. Amir Khusro, a Persian was the first great initiator and promoter of the language almost seven centuries ago. Abdur-Rahim Khan-e-Khana, Kabir, Tulsidas and many eminent saint-scholars gave life and meaning to it.
